Explore Sculpture by Subject
If you are looking for a particular kind of sculpture rather than a project setting, these collections provide the better route. Each collection brings the relevant work together and explains how Alan’s materials, construction and approach change with the subject.
Sea Life Sculpture
Octopuses, seahorses and other aquatic creatures, with their distinctive anatomy, recur throughout Alan’s work.
Bird Sculpture
Alan’s bird sculptures capture the subject’s character through the detail of its posture and expression.
Insect Sculptures
Insect sculpture uses reclaimed mechanical parts to recreate intricate forms while keeping materials recognisable.
Animal Sculpture
Foxes, deer, leopards, rhinos, sloths and other wildlife made from reclaimed tools, mechanical components and forged steel.
Mythical & Imagined Sculpture
Dragons, phoenixes and other imagined forms where mechanical material becomes scales, wings, claws and armour.
Figurative Sculpture
Figurative and narrative work that applies Alan’s reclaimed-material approach beyond wildlife and imagined creatures.
Projects by Setting & Commission Type
These collections bring together Alan’s public, architectural, commercial and memorial commissions, exploring the places, people and purposes behind the work. Some projects appear in more than one collection.
Public & Cultural Projects
Alan’s public and cultural commissions range from community projects to substantial installations in the UK and overseas. Developed for particular places and people, these works draw on local history, shared interests and cultural references to create a lasting presence in their setting.
Commercial & Corporate Projects
Commercial and corporate projects often begin with an organisation, location or idea rather than a predefined subject. Materials, history and visual references connected with the client or setting can become part of the work without reducing the sculpture to conventional branding.
Memorial Projects
Memorial sculpture uses material, symbolism and personal or shared history to carry meaning beyond the object itself. In some projects, reclaimed components have a direct connection with the people, organisation or history being remembered.
Architectural Metalwork
Alan’s architectural work includes gates, handrails, railings, arches and other site-specific metalwork. These projects combine structure and function with a sculptural response to the interior, building, garden or landscape in which the work will sit.
Do you have a sculpture commission in mind?
Alan works with private collectors, businesses, designers, community organisations and public bodies. A commission can begin with a subject, a location, a story, a personal object or simply an idea to be explored.
