Commercial Sculpture

Alan Williams creates original sculpture for hotels, restaurants, businesses and visitor attractions. His commissions range from individual pieces for reception areas and interiors to substantial installations for buildings, gardens and grounds. Clients can commission work that draws on their organisation’s history or interests, complements a particular setting, or brings Alan’s distinctive style into their space.

Previous projects include an illuminated installation for The Megaro Hotel in King’s Cross, a wall-mounted deer for Sky Park Farm’s Visitor Centre and a heart commissioned for Scania’s HQ. Alan works directly with commissioners and alongside architects and designers, accepting both detailed briefs and early concept ideas that need further development.

Working with Commercial Clients

Alan works with businesses, architects and designers on commissions in the UK and internationally. He can respond to an established brief or contribute at an early stage, developing ideas alongside the wider plans for a building, interior or landscape. The commission combines his own artistic approach with the client’s requirements, with the concept, budget and approval stages agreed before making begins.

For projects involving a wider team, Alan supplies drawings and technical information as required and works with architects, engineers and specialist contractors on construction and installation. He can accommodate confidentiality agreements and provide risk assessments, and method statements where needed.

How a Commercial Sculpture Project Develops

You can approach Alan with a detailed brief or a looser starting point. A site, approximate scale, budget and the reason for the commission are enough to begin the conversation.

1. Start with the brief

Alan will want to understand the setting, what the project needs to achieve, the approximate scale and budget, and any history, materials or visual references that might be useful.

2. Develop the concept

The subject, scale and setting provide the starting point. The design concept is agreed before making begins, with drawings, mock-ups or maquettes used where the project requires them.

3. Client Involvement

Alan sends photographs or video as the work develops. Feedback is welcome, and any changes that may affect the agreed design, programme or budget are discussed before they are made.

4. Delivery and installation

Larger work may need specialist transport, lifting equipment, foundations or wall preparation. These requirements are discussed early, and Alan normally installs larger sculpture himself with specialist help where needed.
