Viaduct Gate architectural metalwork by Alan Williams

About the work

Commissioned in conjunction with Brighton & Hove City Council and a local building development company, this bespoke vehicular gate and pedestrian entrance was designed to pay homage to the local history of the railway viaduct that once passed through the area.

The design draws on the structure and character of the historic viaduct, translating elements of the railway into a contemporary piece of architectural metalwork. The gate was created to acknowledge the area’s industrial heritage while giving the development a distinctive sculptural entrance.

Materials and construction

The commission combines a large vehicular gate with a separate pedestrian entrance, using the forms of the former railway viaduct as the central design reference.
