Alder Hey Wishing Tree Metal Sculpture created by Alan Williams 2013

About the work

Commissioned by Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, this freestanding wishing tree was created for families who had lost a child.

The tree was designed as a place for remembrance, reflection and hope, giving families a physical point at which to express their thoughts and wishes during an incredibly difficult time.

Materials and construction

Standing 2.1 metres tall, the sculpture is constructed from forged steel tube and incorporates a donation box, allowing visitors to leave a wish while supporting the hospital and its work with children and families.
