Perched Observer (Osprey) metal sculpture by Alan Williams

About the work

Perched Observer was made in 2013 as a self-initiated work. Repeated shapes from spoons, knives and forks lend themselves naturally to the layered feathers of the osprey.

Conservation has long been part of Alan’s interest in wildlife sculpture. He sees drawing attention to threatened species as one small way of acknowledging the knowledge, wonder and inspiration that animals provide.

Materials and construction

Made from knives, forks, spoons, car clutches, bicycle and motorbike gears and chain. The bird is mounted on a branch attached to a 5 ft sea-defence post sourced from The Wood Recycling Project in Brighton.

The sculpture was galvanised for permanent outdoor display.
