Previously catalogued as Rusted Fox, the preferred title is Urban Fox. Alan had drawn foxes in this pose for years, and this became his first sculpture based on that familiar composition.
The intention was to capture the charm, character and elegance of an animal that can seem both familiar and enigmatic.
Made from retired tools, clutches, mechanical salvage, forged sheet steel and copper, motorbike and bicycle gears and chain.
The rusted patina was created using vinegar and ammonia, then neutralised with bicarbonate of soda before being sealed with a protective coating. The work is intended for interior display and stands directly on a flat floor, fireplace or table without a separate base.
