Red Tailed Hawk metal sculpture by Alan Williams

About the work

Previously catalogued as Poised, this work is now titled Red Tailed Hawk. Alan used several photographs of red-tailed hawks in the wild as reference, focusing on the intensity of a raptor correcting itself in a gust of wind while preparing to launch an attack.

The reclaimed ironwood sea-defence timber came from The Wood Recycling Project in Brighton. The hawk can be removed from its base: a short vertical steel bar beneath one foot locates into a hole in the timber.

Materials and construction

Made from cutlery, garden shears, retired tools, bicycle and motorbike sprockets, chain and gears. The sea-defence timber is set in resin inside a metal-edged frame forming the base.

The metalwork is finished with clear-coat lacquer.
